Boot Head Beach Clean-Up
We need your help! There’s a grand opportunity coming up towards the end of July to hike out to a gorgeous beach on MCHT’s Boot Head Preserve in Lubec and be part of a beach-cleaning adventure.
Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT) is partnering with the Maine Island Trail Association (MITA) to clean up this off-the-beaten-track beach that is a magnet for trash. The hike in is part trail walking, part bushwacking. Getting the trash bags onto boats to remove it will require creativity and calm seas.
Because of the need to work with the weather, we are looking at a weather window of July 26, 27 or 28. We will email volunteers in advance as soon as the actual day is selected.
Volunteers will need good footwear, water, snacks, and good gloves. Don't forget sunscreen, hats, bug dope (you know the drill). High tide is close to noon during that time period, so leaving early to pick up trash will allow the boats to take advantage of high tide to remove it.
Hikers will meet at 8 am at the Boot Head parking lot.
Please RSVP to steward Melissa Lee, , with your email address and availability if you are interested in helping out.
It should be a fun day and so satisfying to leave the beach cleaned up!
