Summer 2019 - Midcoast Edition
From the President
Back to Center
"Right now, the coast we love is facing complex challenges that call for complex solutions, and I see MCHT strengthening, evolving, expanding to meet these challenges head on.
I also know that in order to stay effective, we must remain centered—as individuals and as an organization.
Thankfully, the thing we work to protect—nature—has an unsurpassed ability to call us back to where we need to be.”
Aldermere Farm Celebrates 20 Years as an MCHT Preserve
Twenty years ago, Albert Chatfield Jr. passed away and bequeathed Aldermere Farm to MCHT.
Today, the Belted Galloway herd remains world-class, and the farm is home to life-changing youth programming.
$1 Million More for Clark Island
The effort to raise $4.8 million to protect and open to the public 120 acres on Clark Island in St. George got a boost with a $1 million grant from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Coastal Wetland Grant program.
In My Words
Erin Rollins, 4-H Alumna and Future Veterinarian
“I honestly don’t know what I would be doing with my life right now if I hadn’t been a part of the Farm Hands and Aldermere Achievers 4-H programs at Aldermere Farm Preserve.
4-H instilled in me a sense of responsibility and hard work, which definitely is needed in veterinary school. I learned that if you have a goal and you work hard towards it, you can achieve it.”
In Your Backyard
Name that MCHT Preserve
1. It’s a 45-acre island.
2. It was once completely barren as every stick of timber was harvested to fuel the Rockland lime kilns.
Thanks to our Donors
Everything you read about here is possible thanks to MCHT donors and supporters. Thank you for all you do for the Maine coast.
Have you made your gift to MCHT? If not, give today, and keep up the good work for the coast.
