About Us

We keep the coast Maine

We believe in the singular beauty of the Maine coast and protecting everyone's access to it.

But right now, this extraordinary coast is facing urgent threats. Access to the shore is being cut off, climate change is negatively impacting native plants and animals, and development pressure continues to compromise the lands we depend upon.

MCHT is now in the midst of an historic campaign to create more access to the shore, protect wildlife habitat, and work with Maine communities to save the places people love.

On the Maine coast

Maine Coast Heritage Trust was founded in 1970 to protect the very best of the Maine coast, and we’ve come a long way in the last 50 years, conserving more than 150,000 acres (that's about three times the size of Acadia National Park) and creating more than 100 public preserves open to all.

Today, we work out of four different offices and in all seven coastal counties to protect land, care for the land, connect you to the coast, and support other Maine land trusts.
